drugs again
maggie said that she believes zoe and i didn't know how to communicate about issues.
she said that she doesn't allow drugs in her house, or her car.
if she can get arrested for it, or would need to provide bail for someone else who got arrested for it, she doesn't want it around.
she said that having different standards on drug use for my friends and my girlfriend is ok because i'm trying to make a life with her. i'm trying to live with her.
i'm not trying to make a life with my friends.
she said that there were some drugs that really were only for religious use. paeoti was one she mentioned.
she said that if someone wants to use that she's ok with it, but it's not allowed in her house, or her car.
she said that if the DEA cares about a drug, she doesn't want her girlfriend to do it.
and she said the DEA doesn't care about paeoti because it's not a multi-billion dollar industry, it's not tradeable, and there are no drug wars over it.
she said that she thinks zoe didn't know how to talk to me about what ever it is she wants to do. and that there are some things that are mind altering, that really aren't recreational, and that really are just for communing with your gods.
maggie said that she thinks if zoe had brought it up in the beginning as a "hey, there is this substance i use for religous purposes, here is all the information about it, are you ok with this?" way, we may have been able to have a different conversation.
who knows.
but maggie provided me with information to suggest that drug issues are not all black and white.
she did say that people can argue all day long that certain drugs SHOULD be legal, and she can agree with them because in certain situations some drugs are good for things, but until they are legal, and until she can't get arrested or have to provide bail because of them, she doesn't want them around her.
so it's ok for me to reject things because they are illegal. it's ok for me to respect that there is a law that says some things can't be done, even if the law might be too broad. objecting to every application of a law does not diminish the effects of breaking the law, or the consequenses, and it doesn't make the law go away.
it's ok for me to respect the rules of society that can get me arrested, or get my girlfriend arrested.
because jail is a serious consequence, and the threat of jail shouldn't be taken lightly or easily dismissed.
and maybe zoe and i just have different opinions about that. i respect the laws that can get me in trouble, she doesn't.
but if we don't have the same opinions about that, i don't think we're ever going to work together because if she lives by her rules then she will do things that might get her arrested, and that will mean that i have to bail her out of jail and possibly risk trial by accessory - even if i live my life by my rules.
